Over Memorial Weekend, FCA Camps season is celebrating the 60th year of a time of “inspiration and perspiration” for coaches, athletes and teams.
“All of us at Fellowship of Christian Athletes love to hear comments from coaches, athletes, teams and spouses whose lives were changed forever at FCA Camp,” said FCA President and CEO Les Steckel. “This summer, FCA hopes to reach more than 100,000 for Christ and change more than how they look at sports, but also how they view the world and their place in it. Throughout the Bible, there is story after story where God’s people ‘RISE’ to serve Him. We can’t wait to help this year’s Camps participants to do the same.”
Added Jeff Martin, FCA’s executive vice president of ministry programs and resources, “We are so excited about the upcoming FCA Camps season, where we will explore what it really means to rise for Jesus Christ at our Camps across the world. And we are praying for God to move in the lives of coaches and athletes as they experience FCA Camps this summer.”
In 2015, FCA’s Camps ministry experienced a record-breaking year, with a total attendance of 94,505 at 619 Camps in 41 states and 36 countries around the world. This year’s FCA Camp theme centers on “RISE” and the Bible verse: “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”—Joshua 1:9 (NLT).
The Camp theme of “RISE” encourages competitors and coaches to rise up and take their place on the field, and to keep rising even when they’re knocked down or defeated. FCA communicates that it takes strength, courage and commitment to rise up, give your all and make a moment count. Across the globe, campers will learn how Jesus has paved the way to reinvigorate their faith and live audaciously above the noise clamoring around them. They’ll be challenged to dig in and rise above tough situations, climbing to the top, victorious in Christ.
For the immensely successful and popular Camps ministry, FCA takes the best attributes of both athletic- and spiritual-focused camp events and combines them into an athletic/spiritual experience like none other. Camps also remove athletes and coaches from the rut and routine of their sport, friends/co-workers and community, and place them into an exciting, healthy, athletic environment that allows them to pursue their passion for sport and clearly see and hear the Christ’s passion for them.
FCA staff lead the Camps, and the 4,000-plus instructors have been carefully selected and consist of FCA staff, current collegiate and high school coaches, professional athletes and current and former college athletes. They bring years of coaching and performance experience to FCA Camps and serve as role models for campers both on and off the field. Every Camp is led by certified FCA staff, and each director has been trained and certified as an FCA Camp leader. These leaders collectively provide years of FCA Camp experience.
